Our Tahltan Knowledge Keepers

As Elders and Knowledge Keepers, we have been observing and talking about our people and lands since time immemorial. All of our knowledge is an invaluable source of information about the history of our people, our values, our natural environment, our plants and our animals.

We have purpose. This traditional knowledge and our language is a cultural treasure for us to pass on to each new generation — through spoken and written word and art and through documentaries.

This website is only one of many places that we share our knowledge with our youth — our Tahltan Story Warriors. For we give them purpose too — we guide them as they help us preserve and revitalize Tahltan language and culture for future generations.

We also share our spoken word and written word and our art through our Tahltan Knowledge Keepers Publishing House.

As Elders and Knowledge Keepers, we are not self-taught individuals. We have been gifted with our respective teachings by other Elders or Knowledge Keepers before us, typically over years of mentorship and teaching to play a central role in the community. It is now our turn to be the teachers within and beyond the community.

And as Elders and Knowledge Keepers, we can share our teachings with the spoken word, the written word, and even with video. Our Tahltan Story Warriors — the youth of our community — can both learn from us and help us preserve our teachings and stories.

We invite all of our Elders and Knowledge Keepers to share with future generations:
